Authorities Set Up Post to Monitor Foreigners as Thousands Flock to Gili Trawangan Daily

Tak Berkategori218 Dilihat, Jakarta – The Law and Human Rights Ministry’s Regional Office West Nusa Tenggara’s (NTB) has set up a Team for Monitoring Foreigners (Pos Timpora). The office’s head Romi Yudianto said that this is because thousands of tourists from various countries were visiting Lombok Regency’s Gili Trawangan Island on a daily basis.

The Harbormaster and Port Authority on Gili Trawangan noted that 3,000 to 5,000 foreign travelers arrive daily on the island, which is one of Three Gilis—a small archipelago consisting of three islands Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air.

“Immigration services and supervision of foreign nationals as tourists are expected to increase investments and boost tourism that has resumed after the Covid-19 pandemic,” Romi Yudianto told Tempo on Wednesday, August 23.

To improve the tourism climate in West Nusa Tenggara, the local government also operates an Immigration Services Work Unit on Moyo Island, a beautiful and panoramic exclusive island once visited by the late Princess Diana and other famous celebrities like Mick Jagger and David Bowie.

According to Harbormaster and Port Authority as well as village heads, every day some 3,000 to 5,000 foreign tourists travel between Bali and the Gili Islands.
